Addie, Jenny
Jenny Addie is Associate Librarian - Teaching, Learning and Research Support at Deakin University Library. In her role and to support the Library's motto "We help people learn", Jenny is responsible for the Library's client services program. Jenny's academic library career began in 1977 and she has over twenty years' experience in library management, information literacy, client liaison, reference services, staffing, project management and strategic planning. The client service program at Deakin University Library focuses on real and E-Campus services to support teaching, learning and research. Jenny holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Monash University) and post-graduate Associate Diploma of Librarianship (RMIT).

Borchardt, Karen
Karen Borchardt is a Senior Librarian at the Social Sciences and Humanities Library. Karen is the Liaison Librarian for Economics and works in the Information Services Team, coordinating Information Desk services. Her previous experience includes working as a Librarian at a number of special libraries in the ACT, Victoria, and Tasmania.

Anne Bult is employed as a reference librarian at Chisholm Institute of TAFE in Victoria. Churkovich, Marion

Marion Churkovich and Christine Oughtred are employed in a job share capacity as liaison librarians for the School of Social Inquiry within the Arts faculty, at the Geelong campus of Deakin University. The areas of study within the School include Sociology, Women's Studies, Police Studies, Social Work, Anthropology, Religion and Philosophy. Marion and Christine have always had a strong interest in training students and staff in research skills, and hope their current research project will help them identify and address the changing needs of undergraduate students. Counsel, Rose
Rose Counsel is employed as an Information Librarian in the Information Literacy and Research Services team at the University of Ballarat. Since February 2000 she has been seconded to the University's Scholarship and Educational Development Services Branch to be part of the UBonline project coordination team. Her interests include developing learning supports for students in the online environment.

Daniels, Anne
Anne Daniels is the Senior Librarian and Supervisor of the Electronic Unit at the National Library of Australia. She has been a member of the Unit since its inception in April 1996 and has assisted with the development of procedures and selection guidelines for archiving online Australian publications in the PANDORA Archive. Anne joined the National Library in 1993 and prior to joining the Electronic Unit she held various positions in Australian Serials, ISSN, Australian Acquisitions and Australian Collection Development Units.

Before joining the NLA Anne worked at several government and academic libraries. She has always had an interest in technology and is thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of archiving and preserving online publications.

Dearden, Richard
Richard Dearden walked into the amalgamation of the University of Tasmania science libraries in November 1998. As Science Librarian, he has been responsible for leading the Science Library team in implementing effective "in-house" and outreach services for the Science and Engineering students and academics. Previous to this he managed a web-based IT information service for Tasmanian State Government, and worked as a liaison librarian and coordinated information skills training in the University of Queensland's Biological Science Library.

Richard has particular interest in information skills training and information literacy, which began when working in Queensland TAFE Libraries. He is a keen organiser of professional development activities for library workers - as CPD coordinator for ALIA Tasmanian Branch he has organised seminars and workshops aimed at pooling ideas and practices from libraries in different sectors.

Averil Dent is Senior Reference Librarian at Monash University's Matheson Library. Previously Averil had been the Information Training Librarian, responsible for a number of innovative programs. Averil had a background in special libraries before moving to academic libraries

Reference Librarian, Biological Sciences Library. Anne has been with the UWA Library for 20 years and aside from her current position in the Biological Sciences Library, she has also worked in Humanities and Social Sciences Library and the Medical Library.

Field, Guy
Guy Field is currently Associate Librarian - Public Services, Library & Learning Services, Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. He joined the team at CPIT in 1991 as Reference/Information Services Librarian, and highlights of his work there include internet and intranet projects, developing services for distance students, developing competencies for reference staff and involvement in the information literacy programme.

Guy upgraded to the Victoria University of Wellington Masters of Library and Information Studies in 1997, and his research project was an investigation into client preferences for the provision of distance library services. He presented papers at the 1996 LIANZA Queenstown and the 1998 LIANZA Dunedin conferences. Guy participated in the 1997 AIMA Aurora Leadership Institute in Thredbo.

Fletcher, Janet
Janet Fletcher is the Network Services Librarian at Southern Cross University. She also supervises reference services and is the liaison librarian for the School of Contemporary Arts. She manages the Library's web site and electronic resources and oversees the Library's education user program. Janet is a member of the project board for the University's website redevelopment project and is the Library's representative on a number of flexible learning committees. In recent years she has presented conference papers about electronic reference and enquiry services, online courseware and the design of databases and library web sites.

Foott, Stephanie
Stephanie is the Information Literacy and Publications Librarian for Monah University Library. She began her career more than 25 years ago in the undergraduate library of Queensland University and since then has worked in information services in various academic libraries. In her current position she is responsible for coordinating Monash's information literacy program and for the library's printed and electronic publications, includeing the web site. Her particular interest is exploring how libraries can make use of technology, more specifically internet technologies, to provide better service. An important aspect of this is exploring how users themselves interact with electronic information.

Foxlee, Ruth
Ruth is currently employed at Herston Medical Library, a branch of The University of Queensland Library, which supports the library and information needs of UQ staff and students and the Royal Brisbane, Royal Women's and Royal Children's Hospitals. Prior to moving into the hospital environment she worked at UQ Biological Sciences Library.

As Liaison Librarian her responsibilities at Herston include the provision of services for a large population of staff at the Royal Children's and Royal Women's Hospitals, The University of Queensland Department of Paediatrics & Child Health and Nursing and Allied Health staff at all three Royal hospitals.

Guillemin, Diana
Current position: Dorothy Hill Physical Sciences and Engineering Library, The University of Queensland. As liaison librarian for the departments of Civil Engineering, and Mining, Minerals and Materials, Diana is responsible for collection development to support research and teaching in those 2 departments. Hair, Philippa
Philippa Hair is a Reference Librarian in Macquarie University Library. She works in the Science&Technology team and for the seven years prior to that in Macquarie's Law Collection. She has considerable experience in research in the area of health economics. Her particular interests include the extension of library services to remote users and the development of online training modules in research and internet skills.

Sharan Harvey has worked in TAFE, State and Public Libraries. Her current position is Co-ordinator Information and Reference for Brisbane City Council Library Services' 32 branches. She is an active member of ALIA and has been President of RAISS Qld. for the last two years and is the public libraries representative on the ALIA Information Literacy Special Interest Group.

Henderson, Glenda
Glenda Henderson is the Manager - Client Services & Marketing at UNILINC Limited. As such she is involved in library support and infrastructure management for the members of the UNILINC network. She also manages contract cataloguing activities and is involved in technical services consulting for academic libraries. She is an accredited Kinetica Training Agent and has been closely involved in the development of web-based information skills programs for the past few years.

Hopley, Judy
Judy Hopley is Assistant Divisional Librarian, Caulfield-Peninsula-Berwick libraries, Monash University. She has worked in academic libraries for thirteen years. She is presently in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Peninsula library and responsible for Information Services at the Caulfield library. She is a member of the Monash University Library Research committee and the Online/Ondisc committee which is responsible for recommending and overseeing the implementation of electronic information resources for the library. Currently she is secretary for ALIA Victorian Branch.

Leknius, Alex
Alex Leknius is the Faculty Liaison Librarian for the Faculty of Business and Law at Deakin University Library, Burwood campus. She has been a liaison librarian at Deakin since 1990, with a background in academic and special libraries. Alex is involved in a number of new initiatives within the Library and within the University. She is particularly interested in how users experience library facilities and services and the extent to which libraries can tap into their user's sense of satisfaction or frustration to shape services in the future.Alex holds a BA in Library Science from the University of Ballarat.

Lingham, Bernadette
Bernadette Lingham is the Arts Faculty Liaison Librarian and is based at Deakin University Library's Geelong campus. She coordinates liaison services for the faculty across Deakin's multicampus operations, and works with a team of liaison librarians to meet the information needs of staff and students. Bernadette is particularly interested in the use of IT in the planning and delivery of user education, and in the development of training competencies for librarians. She has presented conference papers on liaison in academic libraries, using IT as a tool to deliver information skills training, and library services to distance education students.

Lipu, Suzanne
Suzanne Lipu is the Education Faculty Librarian at the University of Wollongong Library. She has previously worked in public and special libraries in Australia and has held positions of College Librarian/Lecturer in Library Studies in Papua New Guinea Teacher's Colleges between 1986-1994. During that time she wrote a Diploma of Education (Primary) course about Library Skills for the country's Lahara (Inservice Teaching) Program . In her current position she has developed a comprehensive information literacy program for preservice Education students at the University and has co-developed a model for integrating information literacy and electronic resources into a first year WebCT Education subject. She has recently spoken about her information literacy program at a workshop for liaison librarians at the University of Technology in Sydney.

Mercieca, Paul
Paul Mercieca is currently a lecture in Information Management at RMIT University. Paul's academic profile includes issues associated with electronic and digital publishing and e-business modelling. Prior to this new role, Paul was Publisher and Strategic Development Manager for RMIT Publishing where he led the development of online publishing initiatives including Informit Online and the instigation of Australian Public Affairs - Full Text. Paul has professional experience in the information services of both academic and public library environments, where he instigated new technologies for information service delivery. He holds a Master of Business (Information technology).

McSwiney, Carolyn
Carolyn's major research interest explores the implications of globalisation and internationalisation for library services. Many years as an educator in Asia provides the background to this interest. She has a published monograph and various journal articles and conference papers on the academic library needs of international students, and the internationalisation of the Higher Education Sector and its impact on academic libraries. She is currently completing doctoral studies in this area in the School of Information Management and Systems at Monash University..

Mercer, Prue
Prue is currently Manager, State Library Services (reference and information services) at the State Library of Victoria where she is responsible for all information service delivery from a wide range of collections, including La Trobe and Australiana, through to business information provided on a fee for service basis. Prior to that at Deakin University Library as Associate University Librarian - Reader Services, and before that at the University of Technology, Sydney in a variety of roles. She has a strong professional interest in the application of information technology to information services, in organisation development and change (as well as libraryqualifications I have a graduate diploma in organisational dynamics), and information literacy and lifelong learning. She is the current national convener of the ALIA Special Interest Group on Information Literacy. Her most recent presentation was to an AIMA Information Exchange on 15 January 2001 on Virtual Reference; prior to that she made a presentation at ALIA 2000 on leadership issues for the information profession.

Peacock, Judith
Judith is the Information Literacy Coordinator at QUT Library. She is responsible for the development, inplementation and management of the Library's Information Literacy Program. Her role includes provision of advice and recommendations on policies and procedures for the provision of, and client access to, Information Literacy programs and services across QUT Library and the University. She works collaboratively with Faculty and Library teaching staff to provide assistance with, and advice on, effective strategies for the integration, delivery and evaluation of Information Literacy competencies within the University's curricula and networks within the University to ensure that information literacy maintains a high profile on the University's Teaching and Learning agenda. Judith is a qualified teacher. Prior to her current position, she was a Reference librarian (Information Technology) at QUT Library's Gardens Point Branch.

Peisley, Beth
Beth Peisley is the Science Faculty Librarian at the University of Wollongong Library. She has held this position for 3 years. She has held a variety of educational positions which included primary school teacher, teacher librarian and various faculty librarian positions in the University. In her current role she is responsible for editing the Library's information literacy handbooks for undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting pay for service mediated searches, co-ordination of the Library component of the University of Wollongong's unique compulsory Information Literacies Introductory Program, ILIP100 and the development and implementation of a Serials Survey. Beth has presented a paper at a national conference on the Introductory Information Literacy Program ILIP100.

Rodwell, John
John Rodwell, as the Information Services Librarian at Fisher Library, University of Sydney, coordinates information and research services, including faculty liaison, general and specialised reference services and information literary programs. Perri-Lee Sandell is a Reference Librarian and team leader for the Science & Technology team in the Research and Advisory Services Department at Macquarie University Library. Karin Smith has worked in Special Libraries, as an information broker and in reference in academic libraries. She is currently the Information Services Librarian at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst Campus. She has published several papers on these topics.

Van Dyk, Marie-Therese
Marie-Therese Van Dyk is Monash University's Flexible Library Services Manager. Marie-Therese has worked in public, special and tertiary education libraries in NSW and The Netherlands. She also worked with the Open Learning Agency in its fledgling years. Her primary interest and background is in extending library services beyond the confines of physical libraries. Marie-Therese has served as a lecturer in TAFE's and at Monash University and is convenor of ALIA's Distance Education Special Interest Group.

Williamson, Kirsty
Dr Kirsty Williamson is Director of Information and Telecommunications Needs Research (ITNR), a joint venture of She was a foundation member of the predecessor of ITNR (the Telecommunications Needs Research Group - TNRG), which was established at RMIT University in 1991. The group received considerable funding from the Telstra Fund for Social Policy Research over a period of six years. At Monash University, ITNR is within the Enterprise Information Research Group (EIRG). Recent ITNR studies include one which focusses on providing online services for people with disabilities in Australian public libraries, as well as the project about the evaluation of databases offered in public libraries, on which the RAISS paper is based. This latter study is leading to a project, under the auspices of the State Library of NSW, the State Library of Victoria and the National Library of Australia, to design training packages for public library staff in the use of electronic databases.

Willis, Sue
Sue Willis is a Reference Librarian with the University of the Sunshine Coast library. She has worked there for the past 4 years, and has had 10 years experience in a variety of academic libraries, including a stint as a Lecturer/Librarian in Papua New Guinea. Ms Willis is currently doing a research masters in Information Studies with the University of Canberra.

Wilson, Francis
Fran Wilson is currently Acting Director, Reader Services, National Library of Australia. Fran has worked at the National Library since December 1999 in the Information Services Section, Australian Collections and Reader Services Branch. Her background has largely been in libraries associated with education or educational institutions starting her career as a reference librarian at the Canberra Institute of Education. At the end of 1994 she was the inaugural librarian for the Australian International Hotel School in Canberra before moving to the Department of Defence. In mid 1995, she moved to the ACT Department of Education and Community Services to take up the duties of the systems/reference librarian and afterwards the Manager of the Departmental library, the O'Connell Information and Resource Centre.
